name progression - dace, dacepaw daceclaw.

dace- primarily derives from his original name, as a loner, dace. in warrior's connotation, 'dace' is a type of fish, with a 'dusk blue' color. it represents a blue-grey cat - the colors are present on daceclaw's face, ears, paws, and tail.

-claw in many connotations, it represents a cat with exceptional fighting skills, and while daceclaw fits within this 'umbrella,' claw is often joked to be a bit of a poke at his temper, and despite being trained formally as a medicine cat, is more than willing to fight another cat.

sexuality - forced asexuality, tends to be bi-romantic, with a preference towards males.
short description - tall blue-point tom, with blue eyes.

(section ii)

tall. wiry. boney. daceclaw has a particular look, and flighty air about him that seems to have just the slightest whisper of something remnant of an opium addict. he is often noted to be a tad jittery, and nervous, moving around with quick, often jerky movements. the slender tom isn't unattractive though, and perhaps could even be stated as having a bit of an unusual appearance - which many point towards his non-clan heritage for the reasoning behind this. from triangular face, to almost boney whip of a tail, daceclaw doesn't exactly look like the other generic 'domestic' cats that make up much of the clans' populations.

daceclaw is a cat who tends to not really care about his personal appearance, and his coat, while for the most part a grayish hued white, is often stained, and speckled with dirt and various other things found within the medicine cat den. despite being sparingly groomed, the tom's coat usually holds a soft appearance, with the oily look that tends to identify the water loving felines of riverclan. the blue-grey color that lays across a swatch of his face, and ears, and kisses upon the tops of his paws and tail are what classify him as a 'blue point' patterned cat. a slightly dusty looking, grayish brown touches the tips of his hairs, showing mainly on his back, and hind legs, mixing with the blue-grey on his paws, and ears.

the way that the blue point tom holds himself is something that bounces between being comforting, and being set slightly on edge by his constant fidgeting. he often holds himself in a hunched position, seeming to want to shrink in upon himself, which, he personally writes off as caused by the things that he witnessed as a kitten. daceclaw is somewhat of an enigma even to himself, and sometimes he feels as if he understands himself, and then other times, he is simply not quite sure, and these switched within himself show, because the slender tom goes from holding himself with a steady confidence, to suddenly having the shrunken in look of a beaten child. because his body often reflects what he is feeling inside, it's usually easy to at least somewhat figure out a glimpse of what the thin tom is thinking of, and feeling. though, at other times, he's nearly impossible to guess.

his voice on the other hand is the one thing that remains continuously steady. daceclaw is a soft spoken cat, but his voice is one that commands respect, and soothes even the most fidgety of kits. it's comforting, and warm, and despite that strange practices that he carries out in the medicine den, is a reassuring sound, and one that does him well as a medicine cat. markings in terms of scars aren't numerous on the riverclan cat, and the few that he does have tend to raise questions on how exactly he got them. the most distinctive ones are the ones that spread across his right flank, in wide, thick, raised scars that part the fur in an unruly way to display themselves to the world. daceclaw is often reluctant to speak of what caused them, but one can assume that it was done by something that had every intention of hurting the tom - most have never seen him without them.

daceclaw is clearly an intelligent cat. this shows through his work as a medicine cat, and through his knowledge that surpasses what many might think it to be. if curiosity about something strikes the tom, he will set about to figure it out; no matter what the cost, or way of doing so. for example, when he was a young tom, just set out from his mother, the once highly timid cat had caught a mouse... though, he wasn't hungry, and as he looked at it, he began to wonder what exactly the insides of it looked like. the tom dissected the mouse, and fiddled about fulfilling his curiosity about the internal structures of a mouse. at least, the ones he could manage to look at accordingly, without too much damage too them.

he's done things like this on several occasions, only when he's alone though. when he was younger, he was too nervous to explore. regardless though, his explorations have managed to give him quite a bit of insight on things, giving him a particular edge that some cats might not think of obtaining. his brain is essentially a sponge - give him something, and enough time, he'll eventually figure it out, and be able to come to his own conclusions about many things (now, if they're right or not in a 'scientific' manner, no one really knows, but it is evident that the tom has some medical knowledge, which will be explained within his history).

the word 'charming' is a very actuate description of the young blue point tom. he has a particular air about him that draws others in, which really plays into the kindness that he portrays (falsely so, mind you), and feeds even more into the fact that he is a manipulative little imp. it's a level of charming that many would presume to belong to one who walked the path of a conman, and while daceclaw isn't too far off from such an accusation, he isn't quite a conman. he's more of a... charming psychopath, for a more accurate description of who the tom is on the inside, compared to the portrayal of himself that many see being represented outwardly. his charming ways tend to get him labeled as a flirt, and while the tom does have sexual attractions, because of his pledge to be celibate he cannot act on these urges, and the 'flirtiness' that some perceive is viewed by others as simply being good with his words.

something that is blatantly obvious after having spent a short time with daceclaw is the obvious fact that he is a quiet individual. he's not much one for words, and prefers to listen, and when communicating with others, he is known to use gestures and gentle touches to get his point across. he's never really a particularly 'chatty' cat. and if someone attempts to talk to him for a long period of time, they'll notice his responses getting shorter, and shorter, until he has reduced himself to communicating with only puffs of air, grunts, and a strange array of 'snorted' kind of sounds that don't really mean much without context, or much for common vernacular as is.

loyalty doesn't have the same definition to daceclaw, as it would to many others within the clans. to him, it is not honoring the warrior code, or protecting clan borders. to daceclaw, loyalty means expanding knowledge, and doing so in the name of starclan. since being introduced to the warrior ancestors, and having it proven to him that they are real, the blue point tom has dedicated himself to expanding knowledge. he does this in strange ways, and often in ways that are deemed unethical, or maybe even cruel. the tom is often viewed as a little crazy because of this, and this loyalty plays into a couple other traits that the tom possess.

most cats might describe daceclaw as 'kind,' but there are a few out there who can detect the deceit behind these actions, and know that most of his kindness is forced, and insincere. though, his line of work within the clan proves that having a kind, and caring facade is beneficial. though, when he's on his own, or takes it into his mind to start some sort of study - or experiment, whether invasive or not - the tom has a tendency to show his true colors, and throw kindness to the side, in order to look at things in a presumably no biased way. though, trading this kindness for a coldness is something that many would call unsettling, and highly unethical, depending on the situation. though, so far, this occurrence hasn't proven to be too... detrimental to his place within the clan.

what would an off kilter, unusual medicine cat be without a mildly sadistic streak? perhaps a much more comforting figure within the medicine den, but, regardless... as of this particular point in time, daceclaw is a only mildly sadistic, but, there is always room for it to graduate into a darker state, that could easily border along the line of 'insanity.' it's easy to pose the questions if a medicine cat should have this attribute, and while many would agree. some would also pose the option that maybe the fact that daceclaw is willing to do things that most medicine cats would not, in an attempt to find things that could better their paths as medicine cats, and they could argue that it is beneficial, and important. though, the opinion upon daceclaw's position as a medicine cat would lay in the paws of those who are able to decide if they are willing to do anything in order to better their lives.

ethical reasoning isn't something that the medicine cat possess. beneficence - balancing risks and benefits - isn't a line of thought that the tom crosses very often. autonomy isn't a common thought process either, though, many of the things that the tom does right now is just trying small things, that wouldn't necessarily be considered 'harmful,' and therefore some could argue that consent isn't needed for him to continue his practices. because of this, many would deem the riverclan medicine cat as completely unethical, while other would hold to the belief that he hasn't crossed into a path where being ethical is completely essential.

curiosity is a strong force within daceclaw, and often is the reasoning behind why he does many of the things that he does. the question of 'why' is a very common question within the lanky tom's vocabulary. he's always been a highly curious cat, and sometimes it's an innocent curiosity, while other times, it's a little dark. things range with the tom, and sometimes he figures out these curiosities in private, and other times, not so much. it really just depends if the thought occurs to him that 'if i do this, i could perhaps be viewed as a pariah.'

many can admit that daceclaw is quite the devout individual, when it comes to his belief in starclan. he went from being a tried and true nonbeliever, and after he gained his full warrior name, he became highly devout in his belief in starclan. he often defends many of the things he does with the statement 'it's in the name of starclan,' and while this if sometimes a little bogus, it's a statement that he holds too this idea in order to defend himself, and his actions. daceclaw is a manipulative individual, and this is a fact about himself that he keeps close, and doesn't often allow others to figure out. though, this secrecy is often for the sake of his privileges, and so that he can allow himself to obtain things through experimentation.

hoarding has always been a problem for daceclaw, and walking into the medicine den will make that clear. he has an array of feathers, and various types of bones that he's collected. he loves things like that,and keeps them neatly organized within his den, but is very careful to make sure that they do not interfere with his ability to preform his duties as standing medicine cat. when his things are moved, or touched, the tom tends to get anxious, and if there is damage, daceclaw can easily get flung into a rage.

as hinted at previously, daceclaw has a temper problem - the severity of which depends highly on the situation, or 'offense' committed. even from the time that he was a young kit, daceclaw had a problem with his temper, and it is often a source of trouble for him. he's managed to learn to keep himself stable, for the most part, but some things grate on his nerves until he completely looses it. the nature of his explosions are usually verbal, saying things with every intention to hurt them in the worst ways possible. physical altercations have been rare since his time as a much younger tom.
