Short description: A grey tabby she-cat with golden eyes
Physical Description: It’s not hard to believe that Tigerthorn was once a rogue to be feared. Perhaps the only thing that are reminders of Tigerthorn’s old life is the plethora of scars on her underbelly, back and hind-legs. A missing tail also alludes to a previous life of violence. Tigerthorn is strong, with a body carved to be one that specializes in fighting. Tigerthorn was built for war. Her claws are just a bit longer than most and it’s a bit obvious that Tigerthorn either doesn’t think highly of appearances or thinks highly of herself.or both. Fur in patches, there is usually some thorns embedded in her fur, pelt sticking up in random directions. Most of her scars are visible, some having faded to pale while others, the worst of the bunch, are red, ugly and raw. It’s not that Tigerthorn isn’t rough around the edges, she’s more like sandpaper.
That being said, Tigerthorn does her best to seem approachable - more so to her clan than to other cats. Tigerthorn exudes a sense of lackadaisical confidence, from the way she walks to the way she talks. Like she knows what she’s doing but she doesn’t really care.
Personality: On first glance, it’s easy to assume the bulky warrior is just that - a warrior that cares for little else other than fighting. And while Tigerthorn does enjoy fighting, Tigerthorn is surprisingly philosophical, with a cutting wit and wide array of humour. Her laughter can be heard echoing throughout the ShadowClan camp, and Tigerthorn has a surprisingly optimistic attitude, usually paired with sarcasm. Tigerthorn treats her friends well. Tigerthorn, despite being a slightly menacing figure, is surprisingly approachable or does her best to appear that way inside camp. Tigerthorn is jovial, smart and more importantly, honest. Tigerthorn tells it how she sees it, whether or not cats want to hear it or not.
However, near the borders - Tigerthorn becomes almost unapproachable. While Tigerthorn would never betray the truce between ShadowClan and the nearby clans, Tigerthorn isn’t about to bend over backwards. One might argue that Tigerthorn is still getting used to boundaries and rules but Tigerthorn has very little reason to trust any cat that isn’t ShadowClan. Old habits die hard, and such a large betrayal, Tigerthorn’s loyalty goes toward ShadowClan and ShadowClan alone.
It also stems from the fact that Tigerthorn feels like she doesn’t truly belong - not yet. Underneath her easy-going confidence, lies insecurities. Over her appearance, over her skills, over her name. While she would never voice them out loud, Tigerthorn strives to better than a bane - almost to the point of wearing herself down to exhaustion. Old habits die hard and Tigerthorn also struggles with a violent temper, honed from a former life on the streets. While Tigerthorn would never harm a clanmate, she is constantly worrying that someday she might and trees scattered across ShadowClan territory bear the marks of her wrath. As a former loner, Tigerthorn also struggles to believe in StarClan, herself and other things that seem foreign to her. Rather than ask for help, Tigerthorn remains stubborn and would rather sort out all her problems on her own, rather than ask for help and be seen as weak.
History: Tigerthorn was not always part of Shadowclan - back when she was young, she was known as Bane - a rogue with a violent streak and more importantly, nothing to lose. Raised on the streets, just beyond the two-leg place, Bane was raised on a life fed on blood and broken bones. It was a kill or be killed environment, where trust was hard to come by. Bane lived on her own for as long as they could remember, fighting for any scrap of food, fighting for any land however small. Over the seasons, Bane had found a group that needed a weapon and well, Bane was just that. After all, a weapon is only good when it’s pointed at the enemy. Bane hunted and chased out any stray cats that came into her territory and in return, Bane had food, a home and a group of cats that had her back. It was hardly a family situation but if Bane closed her yes, well, it felt like a home.
Rogues don’t do families, don’t do homes and Bane learned that the hard way - through betrayal. Not nearly high enough up in the ranks of this group, it was easy for them to pin all their troubles on her - the scapegoat. They came after her with claw and fang and the fight was bitter and long. One might call it winning that she managed to escape with her life, but Bane felt stupid, worthless - for believing a scrap of hardened rogues could be a home. She didn’t know what felt worse - their betrayal or the fact that Bane had dared to trust them anyway.
Bane walked, wounds fresh and doing her best to mend them on her own. However, things weren't really looking up. Bane had only ever heard of the clan cats by mention, by rumor and gossip alone but Bane was suffering a serious injury and well, it seemed like a swifter death to wander into their territory than bleed out alone. When Bane woke up, they were surrounded by watchful, cautious, curious eyes and needless to say, Bane watched them the same way. Picked up by a ShadowClan border patrol, Bane spent a moon in the medicine cat den - observing and watching. Bane had been starved out of love and home for a majority of her life and here, these cats had achieved. Needless to say, Bane was curious. Curious enough to stay although back then, Bane described it pointedly as paying her debts.
Some did their best to teach her their ways and she learned quickly, no longer laughing at their weird names or certain beliefs. Mostly, they ignored her and at the time, Bane didn’t blame them. There were bigger things coming. Bane had been in camp when Coalheart was named deputy, and Bane couldn’t help agree that it seemed wrong that this WindClan cat would be leader. That would be like Bane being leader - a ridiculous notion. Her wounds were slowly healing as ShadowClan was ravaged by sickness. Bane offered to sleep outside the Medicine cat den, making room for cats who needed it. At night, Bane cursed herself. Why didn’t she leave? She was strong enough to go. But in the morning, Bane was offering herself to hunt, to fight - to collect the herbs she recognized to help the medicine cat. Why did she care so much about this clan? She didn’t know, but she helped anyway. When Coalheart eventually stepped down, she was surprised when Cloverstar asked her to stay. She almost said no, her insecurities getting the best of her. ShadowClan was bitter over Coalheart and she too was bitter. For him leaving the clan high and dry, for reminding her that outsiders did not belong in such a clan. Cloverstar asked her to stay again and this time, Bane reluctantly agreed. She was given an apprentice name which she absolutely despised but she learned quickly, integrating her best into the clan. It was what she wanted after all - a home, a family, a heart.
She received her warrior name and it felt right. Tigerthorn. Tigerthorn enjoyed her time in ShadowClan right up until Cloverstar met her end. It devastated Tigerthorn as much as it did the rest of the clan. But this time when the name of leader changed over, Tigerthorn was no longer an outsider looking on their private lives, they were part of the group. Thicketwhisker seemed to be the perfect cat for the job and well, things seem to be doing well. Tigerthorn remains slightly optimistic, yet cautious - Tigerthorn has the belief that ShadowClan can make it out of anything. The clan cats remind her a bit of herself - battered, beaten but never broken.
