The wind blew quietly over the moor, rustling the grass as it passed. he grass was still wet with dew, and shadows still lurked in the corners. But the sun was rising, over the hills, to take its place in the sky, to warm the ground and burn off the dew. In his place in the middle of the group of sleeping cats, he opened one eye, then another, gazing up at the sky. It was turning orange and red, the color of his pelt. Smiling, he rose carefully as not to disturb anyone, and stepped into the middle of the camp. Turning round at round, he marveled, as he did each day, at the view. Grassflight didn't know how other cats could stay trapped in the trees, he needed the space. His fur rumpled and messy from his sleep, he sat by the fresh-kill pile to groom himself. Rasping his tounge over his pelt, the movement soothed him. Morning was one of the times when he wasn't noisy or bustling around, one of the times he could sit still. The large tom finished his washing by licking each paw and drawing it over his ears.


Now, half of the sun could be seen, and it was growing brighter every moment. Belly growling slightly, he looked longingly at the fresh-kill pile before glancing again at the sleeping warriors. He knew he should hunt or patrol before he ate, but he would wait till the others had risen. Laying on his side in the dusty earth, he was oblivious that it would make him dirty again. Closing his eyes, he relished the sun on his pelt, and he began to purr.

egretpelt had been up for quite sometime, or, more half asleep, merely taking the time to bask in the quietness of the camp. the only sounds that graced his ears were the snores of his clanmates, and the winds beyond the camp slowly beginning to push the moors awake. he was stowed away in a spot tucked into a thick clump of grass, hidden from view unless someone was specifically looking for a cat within the grassy pool.

a sound, someone awakening drew the creme colored tom's attention, and from his shadowed place, he turned his attention towards the warrior's den. his eyes tracked grassflight across the camp, and too the freshkill pile - which, wasn't too far from the little spot he'd occupied. egretpelt cleared his throat of mucus, before he spoke, "good morning, grassflight." he had chosen a time when the warrior had flopped down, to speak. he'd watched the other warrior for some time, before allowing his eyes to close, and his brain to fog a little as he began to drift back into sleep.

it wasn't until a bird had flashed by above with a loud call in the morning air as the coolness seemed to invigorate it by massaging through feathers. 'egretpelt, you're such a creeper. he's probably going to think you were just staring at him.' blue eyes narrowed at this thought, but he shook his head. oh well.

In a half awake half asleep state, Grassflight jumped at the sound of a voice. Springing to his feet, he soon spotted one of his clan mates, whom he thought was Egretpelt. Head cocked to one side, he wondered why the tom was half hidden. He hadn't been spying, had he?

Shaking the thought off, he replied to Egretpelt.  "Good morning Egretpelt! Wonderful morning isn't it?" Now that he knew another cat was awake, his quiet mood had disappeared, and his tail waved happily. Looking around, he realized that it was already getting into the mid morning, and that the sun had fully risen. "Are you planning to do anything today?" he asked, sitting down again in a relaxed state.

It was true, the tom loved to talk, and to socialize. He had already forgotten about his confusion about Egretpelt's position in the grass, and he was ready to start his day, by talking. Not bothering to wait for an answer yet, he continued talking. "Since you were already awake, you don't happen to know if we are going on any patrols do you? Which do you like better, hunting or fighting?"

the creme colored windclanner shrunk back ever so slightly when the other tom seemed to get startled by suddenly being spoken too. the older tom laughed softly, and inched slightly out of the patch of grass that he'd claimed as his hideaway, and cozy napping spot for this particular time. he assumed that it would probably be smart to act on the inkling to sooth the presumed assumptions of stalking and hiding. "aye, don't worry. i wasn't spying on you, if you thought that. the look on your face sure said it crossed your mind! i've been here since about moon-high last night, just enjoying the solitude, and cool air. it wasn't too frigid, and i wanted a clearer view of the sky," egretpelt explained, glancing upwards at the now single-toned blue sky, bright in the leafbare sun-light.

the warrior nodded. "it is a good morning, quite comfortable and nice to look at." he said, noting that the other had suddenly went from being almost somber in his actions to appearing to have pulled boundless amounts of energy from the very tip of his tail fluff. egretpelt glanced around, once more, and shook his head. "not that i know of - of course, i'll probably get assigned to something. never a paw not doing some kind of duty at some point in the day, right? i did a border patrol yesterday, so, i'd imagine i'm probably going to get put into a hunting patrol today. just an assumption made on observed patterns, but, it seems to be based in some logic." the tangent at the end was one that egretpelt didn't fully realize hadn't actually fully happened between his own ears.

"what about you?" the question was shortly returned to the other tom. egretpelt shook his head, before opening his maw with a twitch of his whiskers to respond to the other's questions. "i have no clue honestly. i haven't noticed the deputy today, which is odd. maybe she slept in? i don't know. and i personally prefer hunting. i liked the time to think while stalking prey. what about you? which do you prefer?"
