Thicketstar ~ 52 ~ Leader ~ ShadowClan ~ Tom

The large tom had been watching his Clanmates for some time now.  He had appointed a trusted tom as his deputy two moons ago and so far, Onyxfeather had not let him down.  While the pair didn't see eye to eye on all issues, it was nice having a cat around that wasn't afraid to speak their mind.  After the plethora of issues ShadowClan had faced it was a breath of fresh air.  

Thicketstar's first act as deputy had been top demote Hollynight from her position as Medicine Cat.  He had realized after the fact that the way he'd gone about it had been cruel and terrible; he had seen the she-cat struggling with her duties and longing to be back in the Warriors den and he had tried to do her a favour but had ended up creating an enemy.  They had reconciled since then but he truly doubted she would ever view him in full friendship.

ShadowClan hadn't had a medicine cat since then and many warriors deemed this as a bad omen for Thicketstar's reign.  He had taken too long to appoint a deputy as well and many cats were worried about what would happen if he died.  But his plan to draw out Littlefang by making ShadowClan look weak had failed and he cut his losses and appointed his successor.  But he had held off on appointing a medicine cat.  The last thing he wanted was to appoint some random warrior with minor herbal knowledge and wind up having another issue like Hollynight.  SO he had waited, and watched, and learned things about some of his Clanmates he'd never known before.  And he had finally found the right cat for the job.

"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather here at the Nightstone for a Clan meeting."  The white and tabby tom had stepped out onto the rim of the huge rock and called down to his Clanmates.  They had had no participation in the Coven threat and they were strong and plentiful.  Thicketstar was so proud of how far they had come since Coalheart.

Frostnose ~ 35 ~ Warrior ~ ShadowClan ~ Tom

The white tom had been on an excursion with his apprentice and was happy for any excuse to return to camp. Sedgepaw wasn't worth his time and his father and leader was far more important then any battle training with a pest could be.  So when he'd heard the call,e ven from as far off as the battle training grounds, he packed up and made his way back to camp.  "Sedgepaw, lets go."  He walked in silence the rest of the journey.

When he arrived back in camp, some cats had already gathered.  Rosepelt had made it out of the Elder's den, although she looked confused as to what was going on.  Rat-tail, her brother stood beside her and nudged her toward a place to sit.  Cowpaw and Regalpaw were sittingtogether, although it was probably more out of them leaving the den at the same time then anything else.  And more cats, still, were arriving.

Smokewhisker had been fast asleep for most of the day. It was one of those days when he hadn't thought about Tansycloud and that was so rare nowadays. She had meant everything to him and he was still hurting over the fact that she had left him and their kittens. It was seventeen moons ago now yet it did not ease his sadness and frustration. If she could see her kits now, he was sure that she would be ever so proud of them. The three of them were perfect, his two beautiful daughters and one handsome son. When he heard the announcement for them all to gather, he instantly awoke and got to his paws. He walked as quickly as he could, not wanting to be late when meetings were such an important thing. It was necessary to attend them and all of his life he'd made sure to get there nice and early. That wouldn't ever stop. He sat down by Frostnose and looked up at Thicketstar, wondering what the leader would talk about. There were multiple options really and he would discover what soon enough. @all shadowclanners

many things about thicketstar's leadership had been bold and unconventional thus far. it had been gutsy to go so long without a deputy in the hopes of luring out the predator to shadowclan that they so greatly despised. part of onyxfeather wished the leader's plan had been successful, wished that littlefang had fallen to their claws. and part of onyxfeather was grateful that it had not been so. what if he had come? what if something happened to thicketstar - they would be leaderless. there was comfort that came with traditionally.

while shadowclan now thrived in leadership and numbers alike, they were still incomplete. a clan without a medicine cat was a scary thing and sometimes the ebony tom wondered how they could move forward. it was not as if a medicine cat could be plucked out of the ranks like a deputy could - the art of healing required extensive and specialized training, training in which very few individuals ever received. would they have been better off leaving hollynight as she was, until a better solution could be made? she had been struggling, and thicketstar acted in what he saw was the best course of action. and so for now, shadowclan carried on in the best way they could. hollynight could always step up and give hand should they truly need it, he was sure.

a shifting movement at the head of the clearing caught the deputy's attention before thicketstar's voice had. onyxfeather's head lifted from the limp crow at his paws, which he had been nursing and plucking at shortly before. when the leader summoned the clan forward, the tall ebony tom straightened up. he quickly dispatched of the crow's remains and padded forward to gather below thicketstar. frostnose, joined by smokewhisker had already joined below. onyxfeather settled a few paces away, furling his tail around his forepaws before honey-yellow eyes flickered expectantly up toward thicketstar.

Hollynight was lucky she'd had so much practice taking thorns out of paw pads. Never before had she had to pluck so many of them out of one cat's paw, let alone that cat being her! She'd have to see if any horsetail or marigold had survived the snows, otherwise she might well and good be screwed.

But it was her own fault really. She was the one who'd realized how thin the brambles were getting on the nursery, and subsequently tried to fix it. You'd think the cold would make the thorns frozen enough to not fall off, but nope! She had a small pile of thorns out of the way, some from her own paws and some that had fallen off naturally.

When Thicketstar's voice called for a meeting, it was met with mixed feelings. Hollynight was still having a few problems with civility around her leader. Any shared words between the two were clipped and strained, at least on her part. She could tell he was trying though, trying to earn her forgiveness for the humiliation. Frankly that was the only reason she ever bothered.

However, her paws were throbbing now, so taking a small break wouldn't hurt. Maybe after the meeting was over she could take a walk through the forest and make her usual- or well, former usual- rounds to check on the herbs.

Hollynight limped to sit on the fringes of the group. She'd to clean up her mess before leaving but she could spare enough time to humor Thicketstar into believing she actually cared what he said. "What does the furball want now?" she grumbled to herself, not caring who could hear.

Thicketstar stood atop the nightstone watchign as his Clan bellow gathered.  Hollynight made her appearance, although she was not making it look plesent by anyone's account.  His heart stung a tad as he wondered how she would react to this ceremony.  Frostnose made his way out, loyal and dedicated to both his father and his Clan as always.  Regalpaw, Crowpaw, Sedgepaw, Rat-tail and Rosepelt, Iceypaw, Featherfall.  Bearkit and his mother had bounced their way out of the nurcury. All had come to his call within seconds.   Thicketstar took note of his black deputy as Onyxfeather stepped to the base of the stone to make his presence known.  And finally, his gaze found Smokewhisker.  Keeping the grey tom in his sites, he allowed his voice to ring out again.  "I have gathered everyone here today to discuss something very importaint.  ShadowClan has been without a Medicine Cat for some time now.  I, and Cloverstar, are indebted greatly to the work that Hollynight has done in the position and all of ShadowClan should honour her as they always had weather she be Medicine Cat or Warrior."  He dipped his head to her, not sure if this would warrent her favour or more backlash from her int he long run. "I call upon my ancestors to watch down and approve of my decision here today.  ShadowClan needs stability in a Medicine Cat, someone who is willing to put their warrior life behind them and take up the root and leaf.  Smokewhisker, should you so accept this position, you will be known as Smokeleaf from this day forward.  You have shown interest in the herbs and healing ways of a Medicine Cat and I urge that you never stop seeking knowledge.  Look to those who know more then you, weather that is Hollynight or other Clans' Medicine Cats."  Thicketstar dipped his head again,t his time to the newly named tom. smokeleaf , tigerthorn , hollynight , frostnose , @onyxfeather

When Thicketstar spoke about Hollynight, he felt confused about what was going on and didn't actually hear the rest of that bit as he was wondering what the medicine cat might have done or what she may have asked the leader to do. Smokewhisker glanced around at everyone and thought that perhaps the she-cat was getting an apprentice. Him not paying attention was one of his faults as many had seemed to tell him before and when he heard his next, he jumped, not expecting him to be called out. 'Smokewhisker, should you so accept this position, you will be known as Smokeleaf from this day forward. You have shown interest in the herbs and healing ways of a Medicine Cat and I urge that you never stop seeking knowledge.' He had not heard the rest, either before or after and he didn't need to. He understood what was going on now and he was truly shocked. Him, selected to be the clan's medicine cat! It didn't seem one bit real and he wondered how this would affect his relationship with his kits. They would probably be okay with this though and it was the path, he now realised, that he wanted to go down. "I, um, I accept!" the newly-named Smokeleaf said. "Thank you, Thicketstar. I will do all I can to make sure you are all well." Medicine cat. The two words rang around in his ears. Warrior had never really suited him and now he had duties that he believed he would feel more happier doing.  @all shadowclanners

Thicketstar had apparently found the reason for this meeting, because his eyes didn't move even as he started talking. "I have gathered everyone here today to discuss something very important. ShadowClan has been without a Medicine Cat for some time now." Your own fault, fleabrain. " I, and Cloverstar, are indebted greatly to the work that Hollynight has done in the position and all of ShadowClan should honor her as they always had whether she be Medicine Cat or Warrior."

She fought to keep her face straight as Thicketstar dipped his head to her. Really, all she wanted was to roll her eyes and walk away. He did love his dramatics, Thicketstar turned away from her to look back at whoever he was looking at and continued, Hollynight was only half paying attention at this point, the itch of her scratches taking more of her attention. She only looked up when she heard her own name mentioned again and wondered what she'd missed.

Thankfully Smokewhisker answered her question for her. "I, uh, I accept! Thank you, Thicketstar. I will do all I can to make sure you are all well." Huh. Well then, Not who she would have chosen, but at least he was one of the more competent and tolerable warriors. She'd have to teach him how to look at the world as a medicine cat, of course, but he at least already knew some of the basic herbs. It wouldn't be like being back at the beginning.

Hollynight stood to make her way over to him but paused when the name chanting started.So Thicketstar changed Smokewhisker's name to Smokeleaf when she wasn't looking? Well whatever. Names didn't make the cat, after all. She padded over to him and nudged him slightly with a smirk. "Come on then, Smokeleaf. Time to see the territory through a medicine cat's eyes."
